In this guide we will teach you how to unlock the Encounter events in Genshin Impact.
Update 1.4 brought a new festival and some changes to the game, including an increase in condensed resin. She also introduced new events from the Gathering.
How to Unlock Encounter Events in Genshin Impact

Encounters consist of four opening story missions that allow you to hang out with Barbara, Noelle, Chongyun and Bennett and find out more about them. Each requires unlocking but can be played multiple times. Here’s how to unlock each mission and what to expect.
Requirements to unlock Encounters
Encounters are not immediately available, not everyone can unlock them. To access the feature, you will need to be at least adventure level 26 and have completed the Archon Quest Prologue: Act 3 III – Song of the Dragon and Freedom.
If you meet these requirements, you can find the encounter events in your quest log, although they are locked.
Now just access the normal quests menu and click on the Story Quests button in the lower left corner. This opens the story mission menu, where you can find an extra tab at the top that will take you to the Encounters screen. This is where you’ll unlock each event.
Encounters are unlocked in the same way as story missions and require story keys. The initial selection of options lets you choose from Barbara, Noelle, Chongyun, and Bennett. Each event will require two keys to unlock, and you can open them in any order.
Story keys are acquired through daily commissions. For every eight completed daily commissions, you will receive one key and you can store a maximum of three keys at the same time. This means it will take four days to complete your commissions to unlock each event.
Pause or Cancel Meetings
Encounters are one-time events that function as a combination of a short quest chain and a choose-your-own-adventure narrative. When the event starts, you’ll enter a conversation with your chosen character and be able to choose your responses as the quest progresses.
After a few choices, the initial quest will end and you will be given a new quest based on your answers.
You can cancel the encounter entirely at any time via the quest menu, and you can also stop in between quests to do other things. Being in the middle of an encounter won’t stop you from doing other missions or playing co-op as long as you’re in between missions.
Finals of Meetings
Encounters can be replayed to get different endings. In the mission menu, you will see an option next to the current Encounter mission to “check plan”. Clicking this will show a flowchart detailing which options you have unlocked.
Each event has six endings that are captured by photographs that unlock as you complete them. You’ll also see the quest options unlocked at each event breakpoint.
Once an Encounter is unlocked, you can simply go back to that Encounter screen and replay the event to unlock a new ending.
You’ll earn rewards for unlocking each ending, including Adventure Exp, Hero’s Wits, and Primogems, as well as Ascension materials and character-related recipes from the hangout.
As Encounters are quick to complete, this is a unique way to find out more about some of Genshin Impact’s characters, while also earning some useful rewards.
